All About Brenda:
|
|
A Wife...
I'm happily married to my best friend, Ralph. We met at teenagers and married nine years later. We enjoy music, gardening, Bible study, and watching our kids learn new things. Ralph is very supportive of my
doula-hood. He knows this feeds my soul as I share my knowledge and skills with women and their partners.

A Mother Myself ...
My own two births taught me so many things.
|
|
Dylan was born by c-section after 19 hours of hard labor.
I truly believe I could've delivered vaginally if I'd been
assisted by a Doula. But that was eleven years ago and I'd never heard the word! |

Dylan
is a beautiful, dark eyed, tanned skin little boy with
dreams of becoming a school teacher. He loves reading,
math, science, playing the baritone, being on Whiz Quiz Kids and his little kitty; his brother is okay too

Preston, my four year
old is a blonde, curly haired, blue-eyed beauty. He loves
Pre-K and is our music lover. (he seldom leaves
home without his goofy makeup! - joke!) His birth was
a successful VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). Even so,
I had more interventions done "to" me including
pitocin, epidural and vacuum extraction. Even though my
birth plan specifically stated I wanted an
intervention-free birth, I didn't have the skills nor
knowledge to know how to deal with obstacles as they
arose. I truly could have benefited from a Doula's
knowledge and support.

And finally, a Doula ...
Each birth is such a special gift to a woman. She will most vividly remember how she was treated by those around her during labor.
Medical personnel have other obligations that prevent their continuous presence. My being there the whole time relieves Dad of the overwhelming responsibility of knowing 'exactly what to do when'.
I think this is a time for couples to become closer as never before; the husband, giving comfort to the woman he loves during her most intense physical experience; the mother, receiving strong but tender support from her partner at the exact time she needs it most.
I feel privileged to be the bonding agent between parents, family members and the medical team. I am a Certified Birth Doula through Doulas of North
America as well as a Lamaze International Labor Support Specialist.
I am a Certified Newborn Massage Instructor and I offer Belly
Casting as a treasured heirloom to remember each precious
pregnancy.
Recently I have been honored to serve with Jeanne Greene, Lamaze
International in coordinating and co-teaching a DONA approved
Doula training. We are currently conducting 2 trainings a
year in the Fort Worth area. I'm so happy to be a part of
our growing Doula Community!
